My dear sister,
It was with unbounded pleasure that we received your very kind & interesting letter and its contents was read with much pleasure.
We received a letter from Mike dated the 22nd he was well then. Cauble has resigned and mike is now Capt he sais they was very much decieved in Cauble the men are all glad that he has resigned Mike commanded the company in the battle at Williamsburg and Richmond and come [out] safe but we dont know how long it will continue so. he sais there was a man killed on his right, and another on his left was severely wounded, he sais he cant see how he escaped
I suppose you have seen a statement of all the killed and wounded. William E Morgan was severely wounded I tell you Sally Foster looks quite sad Lemuel Dillard was wounded in the hand and is now at home he has not been to see me yet but I think it highly probable he will call soon I received a letter from Ben this week he sais he come out safe
Grand Ma Aunt Hannah & Mrs Dr Moore called to see us a few days ago they had been to the factory they said the relations was well as far as they knew Mary Landrum is teaching school near home. Frank was wounded but is thought he will be able to come home in two or three weeks. I suppose you have not heard that Uncle Ballenger & two of Uncle Franklin’s sons of Texas was taken prisoners at Fort Donnelson we can’t hear whether they have ever been released or not they have never got but one letter from Uncle Franklin since he left here. Lieut Big Jim Goodlett has been at home recruiting he came down to see me now may think there was great joy when we met. Johns family is well he has been to Colombia this week he has got a substitute but they would not recieve him until all the conscrips was called for. he sais his business is such that he cant leave well. he has Franks negroes to look after and his business in general to attend to. he was advised by Elford & Perry not to go himself.
You said something about a widower I can hardly think who it is but a neighbor widower has gone on a visit to the Coast. he has a very pressing invitation to go and join Mr. Wood and ride around with him he spoke of going if he had not have gone to the coast. Mr Wood sais he has fine times speaks of Miss Hettie S. in very high terms. he sais he has been to two fishing port on Rabun Creek and enjoyed it fine perhaps the girls at Capt Sullivans formed part of that
My paper has given out and I shall have to quit
Pa & Mother joins me in sending much love to you & family you must come up soon I should like very much to pay you a visit if it was convenient but rest assured a visit from you would be highly appreciated
I will close hoping this may find you enjoying health wealth & prosperity
