Home May 9th /62
My dear sister,
It is with much pleasure that I embrace the present opportunity of writing you a few lines.
I have just returned from a visit to Marietta accompanied by a widower and others we had quite a nice time We took dinner one day with Mrs. Kelly she sends much love to you and spent a night with Uncle Eunoch Cunningham he has been very low not expected to live but has got about again his son Thomas has been discharged on account of sickness, and we spent a day & night at Uncle C.C. Montgomerey’s and from there to Parris Mountain his family is all well Joe is at home she had just returned from Columbia she would not have us leave without going on the mountain they all asked about you and said you must go and see them. I [no?] my round I heard from Mike Lieut Jim Goodlett has come from the same Company and Sir S. Pool they have quite lively times out there electing new officers they have thrown three companies together and formed them into two the three companies was Hawthorns Pools & Goodletts. Capt Hawthorn was reelected in one company and Henry Cauble the other. Mike was elected first Lieut of Caubles Company by a large majority the other officers I did not learn Mike was opposed by R P. Duncan son of Perry Duncan & Capt Suthern
John left for Virginia two weeks ago he had to go about Franks business he said he would see Mike and all the relation if he could. he will have to get into the army if he does he sais he will go with Mike. Sophronia received a letter from Mrs Goodlett last week she sais she will be here by the last of June she will spend the summer here and return in the fall to Texas. A good many men are coming home now that are over thirty-five Capt Blakely Lieut Martin and Ross all from one company Perry Gilreath is Capt of that Company Blakely run for Lieut Col but was badly beat he is very much lowered since his defeat
Tell Jamie I have not seen Mr Daniel since he left Gibsons but suppose she would like to see him he is going home now soon what do your De[???] Ann will do
Mother sais she cant get any yarn fines [those?] if you think that will do she will keep it for you I have not made my dress yet I have been waiting for fine yarn but will have to take 12 it is the finest they spin and are going to spin
Mother sais you can get the cloth at any time she has engaged it for you and the yard if you don’t want 12 you must wait and let her know whether to keep it or not she sais if she can see any chance to go and see you she will do so and carry your cloth & yarn if not you can send for it she sais you know how it is about leaving here when they can work in the farm this has been so much rain. they are very backward planting corn
tell Addie her basket has bever been brought in yet. Give my love to all write soon
