Dear Sister,
It is with much pleasure that I embrace the present opportunity of writing to an absent sister. I am sorry to have to say that our family is not well. Pa was quite sick last week for a while but is about as well as usual. Mother is in bed now she has been complaining for several days but kept up until today I hope it will wear off — and not terminate in any thing serious
I suppose you have heard of the death of Aunt Nancy Evans she was buried last saturday three weeks ago at Nazareth church, she was not sick quite a week she wsa taken sunday night — & died friday with Pneumonia they did not think her dangerous until friday morning & sent for Grand Ma & Aunt Hannah but was dead when they got there
I suppose you would like to hear from Mike we have not heard from him since the 6th of March I don’t know what to think about his not writing. he has not revolunteered when he last wrote he said they spoke of raising a Greenville battalion, and he was going into it I hear some of the Butter Guards think they they will be at home by the 15th or 20th
There is a good deal of sickness in our neighbourhood and several deaths your friend Mrs. [Mcllian?] has been quite sick for two or three months but is better Jesse Morgan revolunteered & came home on furlough and was taken sick and died in a short time. Thomas Morgan is very low at this time. Dr. [Jnow?] Morgan has been to see several times, but sais he think he is a little better.
Pinkney Greer died last week of Pneumonia Mrs Bright — & her mother Mrs Mason & Richard Mason all has died in a short time What do you think of the times I tell you there is a dark Cloud hanging over us now but I hope it will pass away soon it appears now like we will subdugated but it will take them a good while to do it. You can tell Mary Bob has gone he will kill all he can and scare the remainder to death.
John’s family is all well Sophronia has been complaining some since she come home she grieves so much about the death of Frank the children is doing fine. Jonnie has commenced talking. tell Addie I will tay [?] and get her basket for by the time you come as I think it is getting time you was thinking about coming up to Greenville I shall have to quit
Mother sais not be uneasy about her if others is any thing serious we will let you know Pa sais he is looking for you and Mr Sullivan up before long
Please burn this for this is the worst pen you ever saw
Give my love to all inquiring friends if any there be
Write soon I would have written before this but was waiting to hear from Mike - Relation
