Dear Sister,
I now take the opportunity of writing to an abscent sister I received a letter from Mike last saturday he was quite well and doing fine. Bob Baily came home a few days ago he has been very sick since he returned but is better he was to see us yesterday he told us all about Mike and the rest of the boys. he sais Mike is doing very well and has discharged his duty faithfully. he has still the command of the company, the Capt is a Sharlottsville recruiting.
We are going to Uncle Landrums today he is at home & Belton has got a discharge and has got home at last they have been looking for him sometimes
John’s family has got the measels he has them hisself now. some of the negroes has had them. I wrote you last John and myself was going to see you soon but you see he cant leave now. you and family must come up and spend your Christmas in Greenville if I can I will go down with you I would have been to see you long ago but you very well know it was out of my power to go. you must not stay away on account of measels we have not got them in our family nor have not had any chance to take them when you come I can tell you something funny about John Morgan and others.
Mother sends much love to you & family and sais she often looks for you but dont see you. you might very readily ask why she dont go to see you, but it has been impossible for her to go, but she sais she still hopes she may yet live to pay you another visit.
John sais he is going to volunteer he sais he cant be contented to stay at at home. I will have to close as they are about ready to start.
I forgot to tell you Uncle Frank Montgomery was in from Texas Thomas Morgan & Columbus Cunningham has also come. it is thought Uncle Frank has come to get him another wife
When you come I will tell you all about my visit. We will be at home in a few day’s I will look for you the first of next week, if not before. accept much love
