It's Final Rush At Greer's Central School
Greer - Gangway, here they come! These youngsters rushing down the front steps of Central Elementary School are just a few of the more than 48,000 students in the School District of Greenville County who today officially wrote "The End" to the 1959-1960 school year when they picked up their final report cards. At Central, however, the situation was more permant, since it was the final day of activity for the landmark brick building which has served as an elementary school for Greer children since 1905. The aging building is to be abandoned, and students next term will attend the brand-new Tryon and Woodland Schools now under construction. The Pleasant Grove School, also to be abandoned. So at Central, today was not only the last day of school, it was the last day of an era. (News-Piedmont photo by Leon G. Carnes)
