My own darling Audrey,
After a long and tiresome journey I arrived at this place. I am completely worn out and am in no condition for writing to-night, consequently I shall ask you to excuse a poor letter this time and I shall try to do better in the future.

I never, in my life, have met with such bad luck as I have on my way down here. I had to change cars about three times. Had to stay last night at Bishopvill and came from there here this morning by private conveyance, a distance of fifteen miles. When I arrived at B. I was very disagreeably surprised to learn that my baggage had been left behind. This accounts for my using this miserable paper, as all my writing materials are in my trunk, I hope you will excuse my paper.

I'm glad to say my Aunt is much better than I supposed I would find her. I hope she may recover, which I think she will.

Well darling did you tell Mrs. Davis about our engagement? Don't fail to tell me what she said, for I am exceedingly anxious to know. I hope she will not insist on your breaking it off, for you know I could not endure it. No, I can not give you up Audrey. I have a great deal to tell you, but am feeling so tired and stupid that I shall have to wait until I write again, for I am at a loss to know how to express myself. Darling I wish I could see you to-night and have a nice long talk with you. I am not happy away from you, for I am always afraid that you will doubt my love. Now you must not do this. Remember I love you with my _whole_ heart.

But, darling, I must close now.

Please excuse this miserable letter. I shall write a long one next time. Answer this as soon as possible, for I am anxious to hear from you. Don't forget to send me a piece of your hair, please.
