John Bratton Mendenhall and his wife, Minnie Cooley Mendenhall, moved to Greer from McConnells, South Carolina, around 1900.
They had five children. Mendenhall partner with J. Terry Wood in establishing the Wood-Mendenhall Hardware on Trade Street in downtown Greer. He partnered with other businessmen to organize the Farmers Bank and Trust that operated from 1920 to 1923. - Bibliography
