Seattle Wash
Dear Dad
I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to get in touch with you by telephone. When phoning, I prefer to wait until after 8 P.M. to be able to take advantage of the low night rates and as you know 8 P.M. here is 10 P.M. in S. C. I thought perhaps you might be up that late.
The Chevy II gave excellent service on the cross country trip. I figured that the total cost of gas and oil for the ___ing was only about $55 or about half the cost of last summer’s trip in the ‘57. After once getting used to the ____ car I most prefer it to a lays our ___ to its _______ roadability and economy. Shortly after arrival here I did find it necessary to buy two new tires at a cost of about $50.00.
The first weekend I was here Rose Marie came came [sic] up from Oregon to attend a friend’s wedding and we were able to spend two days together. She seems to have matured very much in the last year and I believe she has a much broader outlook than before.
I saw Harold a couple of times a few days after my arrival but he has now gone back to Memphis on vacation and won’t return to Seattle until the first of August.
Ted is kindly asking me to stay here with him indefinitely but to be quite frank his intense conversation keeps me in such a state of nervousness that I’m hardly able to operate and because of that I’ll probably be moving soon.
I hope the pictures I mailed to you arrived undamaged. You might like to have them framed for purposes of making some sort of display. If any particular one of those strikes your fancy and you would like to have a larger enlargement made of it let me know and I’ll have it done.
I would appreciate it very much if you would forward my import looking mail along to me at Ted’s address.
My alternate plans are still uncertain. I still haven’t had the feeling that I’m able to go through the rigor of search for work or learning a new job if I should happen to get it. I might come back to South Carolina but that would symbolic of my failure rather than a solution to my difficulties. If I can’t find some way by whine(?) I can build up my self-esteem then I’m afraid I’ve “had it.” I suppose no person can live without some degree of self-esteem.
So to try to build up some positive feelings about myself I signed up to take the Dale Carvegio pathic spending course. I hope it does me some good but I’m not overly optimistic. I will write you again if anything develops.
