Hi Don,
How are you today? I guess you are really glad school is out. Sure wish I could be around there with you, but “Uncle Sammy” says no, so I guess I’ll have to be content up here for almost a year. I’ve been going to school for a month now and it is getting rough. The first two weeks I did o.k. It was only theory ohm’s law and other electrical problems. But we have started working on teletype machines now and that is pretty complicated. I guess I am just no good in the mechanical line. I’m still making passing grades but it isn't so easy. For instance, the other day, we removed the main shelf from the machine. It is a seemingly innocent looking shaft about 15 inches long with a couple of gears and a few friction clutches on it. This is what transmitts [sic] power from the motor to all the mechanically operated parts of the machine. Well I got it apart and the instructor came back there and got my parts (a little over 50 of them) and piled them together with another boy’s parts, dumped our tools into the pile, scrambled them all up and said “Put them together.” You can imagine what a time we had with about 100 parts lying there on the table, no manual to go by to put them together. But I guess I am learning something! (Sometimes I have my doubts!)
I hope you will forgive me for not writing you last week, but I didn’ write home but once. I have been snowed under with class for the last couple of weeks.
I am still planning to come home for my car the fourth of July. If nothing happens I will leave here on Thursday afternoon (3rd) and be home about 6-9 o’clock on Friday morning. I am going to do some checking on a place for you to stay if you can come back with me. I will let you know something as soon as I can find out. Well, so long for now, Don. Write when you can. I always appreciate hearing from you. Hasta Luego. (Excuse the writing, I am not used to a fountain pen!)
