Hi Don
How are you today? I’m about to freeze. The weather has been cold for this time of year here. It only got to 50° yesterday. This was the warmest since Saturday. I hope it is warmer than that in S. C.
I sure wish I could be with you this weekend, but I guess I must be content to stay here. Our company is on alert this weekend. That is, we are restricted to the post to pull details for the service club, theaters, and other places some will be used as doormen, hat checks, at the service club, and when at the theaters. Some of us may not do anything but must be on call at anytime, therefore we can’t leave the post. About 3 companies are on alert each week, so we get it one week in every 5 weeks.
This is a very small post compared to FT Jackson. There are only 15 student companies of 300-350 in each company at full capacity. I now of one company, that doesn’t have 50 at present.
Do you know Jerry Breazeale? He lives on Memorial Drive. He shipped out last week. He is home now. I was with him for about 2 weeks.
Well, I shot about ⅔ of my month’s pay on a portable radio. So I won’t be able to go to New York till in June. In fact, I can’t go anywhere for the next month. It sounds better than any table model radio around here. It has 5 tubes plus selenium rectifier for A. C. operation. I paid 47 dollars for it at the Post Exchange. It would cost about $70 at retail, plus taxes. So at least if I can’t go anywhere, I have something to keep me occupied.
Don, I still haven’t found out about the guest house rates, but I will try to do so over the weekend and write you again Monday.
You were asking if anyone around here was a “ham.” My platoon sargent is a ham. He has a mobile unit in a ‘57 Dodge that would make the one Waldo used to have in that Buick feel sick. It really is a fancy outfit.
Well I guess I had better go mail this or it might not leave today, so I will close for now.
Don, you are the only one who has taken time to write me. You don’t know how much I appreciate it.
Hasta luego.
Su amigo
Federico

P.S. If you want to save a little money, there is no use sending letters by air mail. It takes them the same time as by regular mail.
