July 17 = ‘56
Dearest Little Boy O’Mine;
Now here we are having another Birthday! How the time does fly! In retrospect I can see in my minds eye a tiny infant cud-dled in his blankets, next, a little tyke tottering on uncertain legs, then a little boy walking home from town with his nurse to find his Grandmother sitting on his front steps, “and hit a rainin’,” as Bill Nye used to say. How concerned he was to find me in such a plight. In short order he had the front door open and me inside the house out

of of [sic] the rain. Then the years roll on. He is a big boy now, driving the car to take us on little excursions into the country to look for arrowheads an [sic] the like, entertaining me with his tape recorder and his music. I think of you every day, and feel really cheated that I don’t get to be with you more. I am very proud of the fine young man you are growing into. You really are one of my precious jewels. May you have many more birthdays and here is hoping you’ll realize all your ambitions. Buy yourself some small moments of the day with the enclosed.
Be good, come to see me when you can, extend my love to your dear Daddy. With a heart full of love and good wishes I am yours affectionately, Grandmother.
