Dearest Don;
Just in case you over-looked the notice in the G. News of the events in the School Music Festival. I am sending you a clipping with a certain familiar name underscored. Aren’t we proud! One of these days I’ll be sending Leanna a clipping with another name underscored and this one will be H. Donald Hawkins Jr.
Keep trying, I’m sure you will arrive.
I got out a pile of old letters to look for stamps, but I find I’ve cut all the valuable stamps off. I guess I gave them to Mac when he was collecting. I rummaged everywhere looking for them but he must have them with him in SC.
You can’t imagine how much i Have been enjoying the delicious peaches. Grand daddy doesn’t care much for frozen deserts [sic], so you see I’ve been enjoying a double portion. But he does enjoy “Luckies” and is getting a lot of pleasure out of them.
I set out two dozen tomato plants two weeks ago, but Jack Frost and the cut worms came giving [sic] them such stiff competition I’m afraid. I wont [sic] even get a tomato sandwich out of them. I have only 15 left and they look pretty sick.
Grandfather’s cold hangs on. He has nearly coughed himself to a shadow but he is busy at the farm and can’t stop. They are making haste very slowly with their operations, as they have so many breakdowns to their equipment that he and “Friday” spend most of their time running back and forth to town for repairs.
Aunt Emmie & Ruth came to see me this week. When the school children all had their eyes examined at the school recently, it was found that Little Ruth needs glasses. Aunt Emmie is very much upset. Glasses are so much trouble to children.
We were so glad to see you and your dear Papa last Sunday. I hope you can come down again real soon.
Give my love to your Papa. Be good, keep busy, do your best. I’m thinking of you all the time.
Yours devotedly
Me-Ma
