D&D Motors moving
Building $7 million facility
D&D Motors is moving three miles down Wade Hampton Boulevard and building a new $7 million facility in conjunction with its 75th anniversary. The company, along with city officials, made the announcement Tuesday. "This is a momentous occasion, as this business moves to a new building." said Mayor Rick Danner. "It indicates the progressiveness on the part of the leadership of D & D and also speaks to what is going on in the City of Greer as we see the (Highway) 29 corridor expanding in both directions."
The new facility will be located at 13750 E. Wade Hampton Blvd. on land that will eventually be annexed into the City of Greer. Site design in underway and the company hopes to break ground within a month and complete the project in 12 months.
"This new facility will bring us into the 21st century by using Ford's Trustmark design," said Skip Davenport, D&D president and general manager. "It will be constructed with a whole building approach to
sustainability."
Features include a Cafe with complementary snacks, two Internet workstations for customers and a play area for children. There will be 17 bays in the climate-controlled shop with the ability to work on vehicles as large as medium-duty trucks. A new collision center will also be built.
"We tried to anticipate all the needs of our customers in comfort in the types of services that we're going to offer," Davenport said. "We've been spread out in three locations here, so this will bring everything together."
The company has been a part of Greer and the Ford Motor Company for 74 years. It was founded by Dan Davenport and Earl Duncan and originally located in Greer's historic downtown. They have been in their present location since 1968.
"It certainly is a rare occurrence to work with a third-generation company. This is such a fantastic project for our community," said Reno Deaton, executive director, Greer Development Corporation.
D&D will keep 51 existing jobs and eventually add up to 10 new jobs as demand and sales increase with the new dealership.
