- Curatorial Information
- This is not the original photograph; it is a relatively modern copy made on Kodak matte photo paper. The photo was glued to a piece of low-grade cardstock, then brown plastic packing tape was used to attach it to matboard. That was framed, then more brown plastic tape used to seal the back sides. The glue used is unknown, but it had turned yellow and had started to cause yellow spotting on the surface of the photograph. Desiring to slow or halt the damage, I unframed the photo and evaluated whether it could be delaminated from the backing board. I found the glue to have dried hard and to be quite brittle; very slowly, I was able to slide a thin bone folder between the photo and backing and separate them. The photo is now entirely separate and stored in an archive folder; check to see if yellowing has continued to spread (for reference, the high-res scan attached to this item was made the same day as the photo was removed). — DL
