"Class of 1956"
"As we gather here today
We have to think of the gray and blue,
The way it has affected our lives
And brought together friends, old and new.
We have met so many times before,
To greet old friends and talk awhile,
It's hard to realize forty-five years have passed -
How long it has taken to come this last mile.
We hope this "last mile"
that has brought us here today,
For us won't really be "the last" -
But only a stepping stone,
To help us look back and reflect on the past.
No matter where we go or what we do,
Hopefully we will try to keep in touch,
Because the years are slipping away
And we are losing those we liked so much.
Death has taken so many.
Serious illness has touched a few,
But we have to be happy for those we have left -
Those that are still close to me, and to you.
Memories are forever,
And we surely can't let them go,
Because of just being sentimental,
Or perhaps just to let us know,
We're still somehow still connected
And those friendships are still just so."
- Penny King Eubanks, September 8, 2001.
