GREER - J.W. Gregory is both a teacher and a stu-dent of life.
A successful businessman in downtown Greer for 33 years, he believes in dress-ing well as a matter of self-respect. He advocates a you-can-do-it attitude and years ago, set a goal to satisfy ev-ery customer who comes into his clothing stores. He calls himself a "golfaholic." He loves to garden and has been raising banana plants for 20 years. His proudest accomplish-ments, how-ever, are the human vari-ety - a handful of young men he steered toward a useful life.

A former teacher and coach, Gregory owns three stores. In addition to the fa-miliar green, brown and cream-colored Gregory's Boutique near the intersec-tion of Main and Poinsett streets in Greer, he owns a shop at Pleasantburg Shop-ping Center in Greenville and on East Public Square in Laurens.
ALAN DEVORSEY / Staff
J.W. Gregory owns three stores, one in Greer, one in Green-ville and one in Laurens.
The boutiques sell high fashion, mostly men's cloth-ing, a lot of Italian cut or what Gregory calls "dressy, church-folk and urban look. I like fashion. A little flamboy-ant. No hip-hop," he says.
Willie Duncan, manager of the Greenville store, is among the young men he helped.
