James Hill, on the left, poses with future brothers-in-law, Charles Durham, and Paul Durham in 1953. James, who grew up in the Pelham area, had a successful career after high school as a brick mason. He could proudly point to many buildings in Greer that are testimony to his skill. The Durham family owned a 30 acre farm near the South Tyler River.

It is an honor to have the Sterling High School Me It is an honor to have the Sterling High School Memorial in Greenville. May we always remember the courage of so many in the nation and our own city of Greer who paved the way for Dr. King’s dream.

“The students of Sterling High School were the driving force that promoted the change of institutional segregation in Greenville County.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Sterling students held demonstrations, marches and rallies that finally
integrated the Greenville County Library and public accommodations, changed the seating arrangement on city buses and eliminated the segregated lunch counters at the former Woolworth's Department Store at this site.”

We are beyond excited that our director, David Lov We are beyond excited that our director, David Lovegrove, has been named Citizen of the Year by The Greer Citizen! We are so thankful for this incredible year with our GHM family.
We have a reminder on our wall in the museum of an We have a reminder on our wall in the museum of another January in Greer…1932, the beginning of the Great Depression. It had most likely been a hard three years for the Planters Savings Bank and its customers…yet, they started this new year with a beautiful print of a mother and child on their calendar. There was a decade of economic depression ahead, followed by another World War.
People in Greer suffered, survived and often thrived in many areas of their lives during this time. Thankfully, they passed their stories down to younger generations. Are you taking notes, telling your stories or journaling about this January? You will be glad you did! #greertidbits #hereingreer #greersc
