Greenville, S.C.
Dec. 1, 1892.
Mr. Alexander,
Your letter of recent date was indeed a surprise but a very pleasant one.
I have entirely recovered from the fatigue of attending the fair and my encounter with so much dust. I had a lovely time at Woodruff, in fact, I always do when I make a visit there. Allow me to congratulate you upon your musical performance. I know the audience appreciated it and you were encored again and again. I think the music on the guitar the sweetest in the world.
We have quite a number of entertainments here every week but I cannot attend them only on Friday nights on account of my studies. Last Friday night there was a "Japanese Tea" and we all went arrayed in Japanese costumes. The decorations refreshments, etc. were Japanese also. I had any amount of fun we were funny looking "Japs."
By the way, we had a very novel exhibition one night last week. the old saying about the stars falling came true. To the ignorant and superstitious it was "simply appalling, but to the more enlightened it was a beautiful meteoric display. As it was not confined to this particular "city" you were probably an eye witness.
Sincerely yours
A. H. Davis
